Hey there! This week we're diving into the world of music management and whether independent artists really need them, we've got some bad news from Beatport, and the most underrated plugin ever. Let's get it!

Do Independent Artists Need Managers?

In the music industry, there's always a debate about the role of music managers and whether independent artists really need them. But what about booking agents? Let's dive in.

Booking agents are key players in the music industry. They're the ones who get you on stage, in front of the crowd, doing what you love most. If you're looking to get on lineups and secure bigger gigs, a booking agent might be more crucial at this stage of your career. They have the contacts and the know-how to get you in front of the right people and on the right stages.

Here's a little industry insight: being on a big agency with headliner acts can get you on some seriously impressive lineups. How? Well, these agencies often package their artists together for events. So, if you're on the same roster as some big names, you might find yourself billed as an opener for them. Not a bad gig, right?

On the other hand, a music manager can help with a broader range of tasks. They can handle everything from social media marketing to securing a label or distribution deal, and even working out a long-term strategy to build revenue streams. But remember, their impact should be worth the financial investment.

In the end, having a music manager can make things a lot easier, but a booking agent might be more crucial in the early stages of your career. So, weigh your options and make the choice that best suits your current situation.

What's your take? Manager, booking agent, or both?

Industry News: Beatport Raises Prices

Beatport, the go-to platform for electronic music, has announced a price increase for its downloads starting August 14th. This is the first price hike in 18 years, so it's safe to say we've had a good run. The increase isn't massive, but it's enough to give both Beatport and the artists who release music on the platform a bit of a revenue boost.

Standard releases will see a 20-cent increase, a 15.5% hike, while the extra fee for lossless copies will go up by 5 cents from its current $0.70 price. It's not all bad news though. To make up for the price change, Beatport will now allow customers to download the tracks they purchase up to five times, and they're ditching the 48-hour time limit to use those downloads.

While it's a bummer to shell out a bit more for our favorite tracks, it's a small price to pay to support the artists we love. Plus, the added flexibility with downloads is a nice touch.

Ever feel like your tracks are missing that extra punch? Enter Native Instruments Transient Master. This dynamic processor is a game-changer for shaping your sound, and it's criminally underrated.

With just three main controls - Attack, Sustain, and Gain - Transient Master lets you add bite to your drums or control the reverb on your synths. Its simplicity is its strength, and it delivers results without coloring your audio or introducing artifacts.

So, if you're looking to give your sounds a boost, Transient Master could be your secret weapon. Check it out here. Get it here.
